The Creamy Crack Love Story....
In about 2009, I, nonchalantly, decided to end my love affair with Mr. Creamy Crack. I was so over him. It was to the point where I couldn't even remember life before him. Our affair lasted about 7 or 8 years. When it was good...it was good, but when it went bad....I threw up my dueces and went onto the next....After all, I could do bad by myself!
I had been, what is now widely recognized as, natural for most of my life. I remember rocking my afro puffs, cornrows, and press and curls up until I was about 13. I begged and pleaded with my mother for years to let me get a relaxer. All my friends and cousins had them and they wore their hair in Doobies (Jersey Girl Term = Roller Set). I was jealous! I had always had long and SUPER thick hair, but mine didn't blow in the wind like theirs L
Finally, the summer before I started high school, my momma finally gave into my demands. I got my first relaxer and you couldn't tell me nothing *kanye voice*. I continued to wear my relaxer for years and we had a good run!

We Had a Good Run |
When I went to college, I thought I was grown, so ya girl wanted some color too. This, my friends, is where the drama begins. Once I started coloring AND relaxing, I noticed my tresses weren't as thick as they normally were....and that was a PROBLEM. My hairdresser convinced me that the Keratin Complex would be some kind of magical alternative. So I jumped on that expensive bandwagon for about a year....Hey I was a broke college student....I'm surprised it lasted that long.
College Red Head - "Couldn't Tell Me Nothing" |
There began my transition. I officially called it off in March of 2009. I rebounded with the Keratin Complex but eventually broke it off because I wasn't seeing the "magical" improvements that I was promised, so I decided to go AU NATURALE. I have neever been so creative and spontaneous with my hair in my life. I did all kinds of styles. I stumbled unto Curlynikki's Website (www.curlynikki.com) and I had discovered the holy grail. It was such a lifesaver.
So I slowly started trimming away my relaxed hair, little by little, and by the end of 2011 I was finished transitioning. As of today, I have been on this journey for 4.5 years and I feel so liberated! This journey has helped me change a lot of my views on beauty and I am in love with the person I have become beause of it. Since, I went natural, I've noticed a lot of my friends follow suit. Therefore, I get questions upon questions about what I do with my hair...so this brings here. My natural hair journey, along with my passion for Cosmetic Science, has given me an abundance of information (via experience, training, and research) that I feel I should share with the world. SO STAY TUNED J
